Apparently it was introduced with the new El Capitan update. I've gone back to a few photos to see that they're now overly contrasty than what I thought I had, since I was unknowingly compensating for boosted gamma levels. As photographers this is extremely unacceptable. Apparently, Apple subtlety changes the gamma to make your screen more visible when the backlight isn't enough. Searching it up, I came across this article: So I thought maybe I've gone crazy.įast forward a few weeks - running out of charge and having to completely reboot the mac, I notice that the log-in screen is vibrant and contrasty, just as I remembered, and as soon as I log in the screen is back to looking washed out. I checked the calibration profiles and even resorted to reinstalling OS X, but everything still seemed the same. Lately, I've been noticing that my colors seemed a bit washed out.
